Clinical information

Anti-DFS70 antibodies typically produce a dense, finely speckled nuclear pattern (ICAP: AC-2) in the indirect immunofluorescence assay on HEp-2 cells. They are also detected relatively frequently in healthy individuals and rarely occur in association with systemic autoimmune rheumatic diseases (SARD).
The isolated presence of anti-DFS70 antibodies, particularly in the absence of other disease-specific autoantibodies (e.g. ENA or dsDNA antibodies), therefore argues against the presence of SARD and is considered a negative predictive marker in the differential diagnosis of positive ANA results.
The detection of anti-DFS70 antibodies can thus contribute to a better interpretation of positive ANA results and help to avoid unnecessary further investigations.
