Clinical information
Fructosamines allow a look-back regarding the average blood sugar concentration within the last 1 - 3 weeks. In addition to the HbA1c determination, the fructosamine determination is a method for retrospective control of the diabetic metabolic state. However, its significance is controversial, as a variety of circumstances can lead to an increase in concentration: Acute phase reactions, hyperthyroidism, oedema, pregnancy, exsiccosis, hyperbilirubinaemia, haemolysis, prolonged congestion while taking blood samples.
