Human bocavirus (hBoV) frequently causes respiratory infections in young children, and is the second most common pathogen of severe respiratory infections after RSV (respiratory syncytial virus). In rare cases, hBoV can also cause gastrointestinal infections.
HBoV often occurs as a co-infecting virus with other respiratory viruses such as RSV or rhinovirus.
