Material & Volume
EDTA Blood, 10ml
Blood collection from Monday to Wednesday; samples must arrive at the laboratory by Thursday at the latest.
Clinical information
The translocation t(9;22)(q34;q11) results in the formation of the BCR::ABL1 fusion gene and is characteristic of chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML). In most patients with CML, the BCR::ABL1 transcripts e13a2 and/or e14a2 (p210) are detected. BCR::ABL1 can also occur in Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (Ph+ ALL), frequently as the e1a2 transcript (p190).
The qualitative analysis detects a BCR::ABL1 fusion transcript and determines the transcript type. This information is important for subsequent monitoring, where the identified fusion transcript is quantified (see 3548 BCR-ABL fusion transcript, quantitative (Philadelphia chromosome).
A negative result does not completely exclude rare BCR::ABL1 transcripts that are not detected by the method used.
